This is a little late, because I've been on the road for
count 'em
3 days
(and because Las Vegas thinks it needs to charge hotel patrons for Internet usage...)
BUT
welcome to the world, Miss Caelyn!!!!! Congratulations to Corie and Cyle, new, already-awesome-I'm-sure parents!!!
The little booger wasn't quite ready to meet her Aunt Bailey and so decided to exit the womb after I left town (that's all right, girl, I get it--independence), so I'll have to wait until at least August to see her, but I'm so excited for Cor and Cyle and their new bundle. Love you all three!
And a happy birthday to her two birthday twins, my niecy face Annabelle who is 2 now (whoa) and to my cuz Michelle who is (25?). Holla to three great girls!
Love,
Aunt/Cousin Bailey

Bossypants
I could benefit from a drill sergeant/assistant who could see to the fact that I don't hold onto papers for as long as I do. I don't think I'm a pack rat, I just don't want to blindly throw things away and then realize later, "Oh crap, I needed that."
So then I find myself packing my apartment and thinking, "Oh crap, I still have this."
The drill sergeant could have made me go through these papers/receipts/etc. long ago, you see. Maybe I should train the cat to boss me around in that regard. He already tells me to feed him several times a day.

Change
Moving makes me sad. :(
In other news, the woman at the local DMV here who took my picture for my new driver's license should get a raise, because I look good in my new pic. Seriously, peeps. Seriously. IMHO, of course.
The good news, too, is that two weeks from today I'll have been in sunny Cali for a week, and all this transition period will be but a memory. Woot. Let's focus on that, B.

Eat, Papa, eat!
My girl Lydia is staying with me for a little while, and I must say she is a fab roommate. One of many reasons? She helps me eat all my food, since I need to get rid of it.
Last night, collectively, we had sweet potato, beets, merlot, rice, spinach, popsicle, hot chocolate, sherbet push pop, cheese, and bow. We're doing good work. We've gotta throw down some more food tonight. Bring it.

Stylin'
I don't really know what to write about (except I suppose I could tell y'all casually in a parenthetical that I graduated yesterday, NBD), and I don't really want to write something too long or complicated, let's be honest, so I'll show off my new haircut. This is what it looks like when it's styled. It doesn't take too long to style, I'm just a lazy laze and don't usually do it.

Some reading for y'all
Just read a nicely put together article (link below) about one of my favorite artists, Jennifer Knapp. I really like how its selection of quotes highlights the complexity of homosexuality and faith. Often those two things are thrown together in a very black and white discussion, when for so many people the issue is more complex. My compliments to this reporter, Greg Warner, on his work here.

One's diet when she's moving out of her apartment
Like several of my friends right now, I am trying to pare down the food items in my kitchen before I move*.
This is proving to be rather difficult. Say you have a partially used onion in your fridge. Well you can't just eat that raw. So you find a recipe using onion. Then you realize you need other ingredients--rice, chicken breast, garlic. So you buy those things, you make your recipe.
You used up the onion, congrats, but now you have garlic, rice, and chicken in your possession.
Today I made coffee. I'm out of milk, but grew up eating dry cereal (not because my parents were mean--we liked eating it that way), so I decided to bust into my off brand Frosted Flakes, sans milk.
Stale.
Moved on to off brand Lucky Charms.
Also stale.
So then I had some cookies. Later I cooked some carrots. I just polished off an orange sherbet push-pop, and more coffee is brewing.
The pistachios across the room look pretty good right now.
*to Cali! Holla!

Little factoid about Bailey
Recently a faculty member I know passed me in the hallway and told me I'm a brave soul.
I chuckled, then wondered...and then asked: "Why?"
Apparently a radio commentary I recorded is now getting airtime. Click here--my piece starts after the 6 minute mark.
Just doing my part to join the radio cohort, since afterall, I was named after Ms. Quarters.

Productivity comes in several forms, my friends
I'll tell you what I love about those disinfectant wipes. They allow you to procrastinate while also providing you with a sense of accomplishment. Sure, I'm not grading those student projects, but my sunglasses no longer have beer on them* and the tape residue on my binder is a little less noticeable.
If my boss is reading this: fine, I'll get back to grading. Until I find something else to disinfect or de-stickify.
*The beer was thanks to some chicas having a disagreement at the bar last week. Beer was thrown (classy), I was in the splash zone.
